Scott Decker was born near Milroy, PA on September 4, 1979. His parents are Debra Decker of Milroy and the late Charles Decker. He has one brother, Pete, of Mifflin.
Melissa (Weller) Decker was born in Huntingdon on May 8, 1981. Her parents are Ken and Karen Weller of James Creek. She has one sister, Lindsay, of Meadville. Her three brothers are Michael, who resides in Utah, and Matthew and Lucas of James Creek.
Scott and Melissa met at Lancaster Bible College while earning their degrees. Melissa has double Bachelor degrees in Biblical Studies and Elementary Education. Scott earned his Bachelor degree in Biblical Studies with a minor in Professional Counseling. Both Scott and Melissa graduated in 2004 and married shortly after on June 26, 2004.
Scott and Melissa welcomed Benjamin Scott on October 5, 2006. Benjamin is an active young man who loves sports, especially football. On July 15, 2009 Scott, Melissa and Ben welcomed a new blessing into their lives, Camdyn. Camdyn loves animals and music.
Melissa is currently taking a break from teaching as a profession so that she can more fully support her husband and children. Her hobbies include reading and scrap-booking.
Melissa realized her need for Christ while attending VBS at the Hesston Church and the youth program at Woodcock Valley Bible Church. Her favorite verses are Micah 6:8, which reads,"He hath shewed thee, 0 man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" and Proverbs 3:5-7 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the Lord, and depart from evil." "Amazing Grace" is Melissa's favorite hymn.
Before Scott joined us as Assistant and then Senior Pastor, he was employed as Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS) with the Juniata River Center in Huntingdon. He enjoys archery hunting, Penn State college football, and spending time with his family and friends.
Scott surrendered his heart and life to the Lord at Summit Grove Church Camp in New Freedom, PA during the summer of '89. Scott's favorite verse is Romans 8:31, which poses the question, "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us , who can be against us?" His favorite hymns are "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Because He Lives."
We are so blessed to have Scott and Melissa in our church family. I encourage everyone to get to know them soon and their precious children, Ben and Camdyn. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue to seek God's direction in their family and in the ministry at the Community Chapel.
Pastor Doug is originally from Duncansville, PA, where he was raised in a Christian home with his parents, Don and Debbie, and two sisters, Ashley and Emily. At 6 years old, he realized one evening after a church service his need for Christ in his life and with the help of his mother, asked Jesus Christ to save him from his sin. Doug attended Blair County Christian School where he enjoyed participating in various high school sports. He graduated in 2009 and then spent the following year at Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center where he learned the trade of welding. It was during his time there where he felt the Lord calling him into the ministry. The following year he attended Appalachian Bible College in Beckley, WV where he attended for 4 years and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible and Theology with a second major in Youth and Family Ministries.
Durin his time at college, Pastor Doug met his wife Nicole. Nicole grew up in Brazil, Indiana where her dad still currently serves as a pastor. She grew up with 2 godly parents, Gordon and Dalene, 2 sisters, Shelley and Sonja, and a brother, Dawson. Nicole trusted Christ at the young age of 4 years old during her devotional time with her dad. She rededicated her life to Christ in February of 2013 after realizing she hadn't been truly faithful in living for HIm. Ncole attended Appalachian Bible College for 2 years earning her Assosiates Degree in Bible and Theology. Nicole enjoys playing sports, being outside, and in her spare time enjoys making different crafts and cupcakes. Doug and Nicole have been happily married since July of 2014.
Pastor Doug came to serve at the Community Chapel of Hesston in October of 2015. He serves as Assistant Pastor to Pastor Decker and is also the Christian Education Director. Doug has a general oversight of all the youth ministries and is highly involved in youth group. He believes that one of the main keys to youth ministry is building relationships (not just with the teens, but with the families as well.) Along with spending time with our church youth, Pastor Doug enjoys spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, and is interested in pretty much anything that has to do with sports (except for the Dallas Cowboys).
If you have any youth in your family or neighbrhood, please be sure to come check out our youth programs and get to know Pastor Doug and Nicole who love serving the Lord and ministering to our young people.
